Reese Witherspoon goes to Circus School

X17 Online is reporting that:

Reese Witherspoon took a fitness class at the Cirque School in Hollywood yesterday afternoon — yes, Cirque is French for circus — so what in the world would the blonde beauty be doing flying on a trapeze or taming lions?

Well Reese is preparing for a role in the upcoming film Water For Elephants, a story about a veterinary student who abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet. And yes, that veterinary student is the one and only Robert Pattinson!

He’ll play opposite Reese in the historical film about a Depression-era traveling show. Pattinson’s character, Jacob Jankowski, falls in love with Reese’s character, Marlena — a trapeze artist and the wife of a crazy animal trainer.

So that’s where the Cirque School comes in … Their classes are taught by working circus professionals; the school’s founder is a Cirque du Soleil veteran who specializes in aerial arts.

I don’t know if they can work it into the script, but we hope there’s a scene in which Reese releases the trapeze and flies into Rob’s arms!

Um, did I miss something? When did Marlena (Reese’s character) become a trapeze artist?

There is no connection between her and the character he plays and she isa horse equestrian and elephant rider, not a trapese artist. She is married and he is the circus vet. read the book. Also, she is not a good actress for the part, I don’t know why they couldn’t get someone who knows how to act.

She is probably training on all sorts of Circus equipment, including Trapese. I don’t see anything wrong with that. And yes there is a connection between her and Robs character – they fall in love. It’s a big part of the book and of the script. I like all the actors who they’ve chosen and cannot wait to see one of my favourite books come to life.

  6. Dee says:

Marlena is an equestrian and elephant rider and I am sure that this would require trapeze skills to preform the acts.
To Dorym: The entire book is based on Jacob’s journey. How can you say there is no connection between Marlena and Jacob? Maybe you need to read the book again. (spoiler alert) They meet, fall in love, and he saves her from his sadistic husband.
I think Reese will do a great job with this part.

  7. Dorym says:

I meant professionally; they would not be doing a trapese act together. I have read the book twice.
Reese Witherspoon is a comedic actress, not my choice for this role.

  8. Dorym says:

Ps. He is not the one who saves her, maybe you should read the book again!

    • Dee says:

I believe that even though Rosie plays a part in the final act, it is Jacob’s love for Marlena that saves her.

  9. Dorym says:

He played her son in his first movie!

    • Mia says:

So? That was when Rob was what? 15? They are actors, it was a long time ago and it’s not like it was a famous role for them, it was a deleted scene that not many would have seen. They will be fine together. I’m sure Rob had to audition with Reese to get the part, the produces know what they are doing.

And Dee is right, it’s Jacobs love for Marlena which essentially saves her from August.

  10. I am a big fan of Reese Witherspoon. She is a great actress, and a good person, which is rare these days.

  11. Becca says:

Everyone has their own picture and idea of who should play each role…I am pleased with the cast so far. I was a little skeptical about Reese at first, but now that I’m used to the idea, I think she will do the role justice….She is a doll.
