Marlena: Wait, WHAT? Jacob: The US premiere date and location is now unconfirmed and might move to LA. August: Hmm...this will red-light some dreams. Not good.
Sing it with me Diana Ross! “Baby, baby, baby….where did my premiere go?”
The Water For Elephants premiere turned into a circus today on twitter and facebook. You gotta laugh at it right? “No, kinker Tink, I will NOT laugh because I bought my non-refundable ticket and my hotel!” Ok ok…so did all the kinkers but what are ya gonna do?
Yes the director, Francis Lawrence tweeted the premiere would be in NYC on April 17th. Click HERE to read the post.
However this information is now in question. The official facebook page for WFE has been very informative since becoming more active this week. Here is a recap of their comments today regarding the stateside premiere:
Regarding NYC location:
- It hasn’t been confirmed yet, we’re still working around the actors schedules. We’ll let you know as soon as we lock it in.
Addressing question about MANN theater LA premiere:
- Not a bother! We’ll have official confirmations of dates very soon, but don’t have ‘em *just* yet. Don’t worry, we’ll keep everyone in the loop! We appreciate how excited everyone is, and doubly appreciate sites like yours that a…re helping to spread the word.
- Hi All! We’re getting flooded with questions about Mann’s Press release. Here’s the official word from us at the studio. The April 14Th premiere in LA is what we are trying to execute. Robert is still filming for Summit at that time so we have not locked it in. We obviously want everyone there, so nothing is final at this time. We promise, as soon as we lock in a premiere we will let you know!
- We will have one U.S. Premiere. We have two theaters reserved but until we have everyone’s schedules confirmed won’t make a decision.
Regarding theatrical releases for Venezuela:
- We’ll have international release date info soon, and this will be the place to hear it! You can also follow us on Twitter: @WaterElephants. Thanks!
Speaking to Irate Lindsey:
- Hi Lindsey, we’re sorry you’re so upset. We had no idea so many fans were booking trips, we would have told you it wasn’t confirmed if we knew. Premieres are almost always in LA, we had reserved a NY theater in case we couldn’t get the talent to LA at that time. We still don’t have everyone confirmed, thats why we haven’t put out on official statement.
Irate Lindsey wants to cancel her reservation:
- Don’t do anything yet Lindsey, we still have both dates reserved. We won’t know which we are able to do until Rob wraps up with Twilight. (tink: Lindsey calmed down a bit and was appreciative for the response)
- Hi all, Just to clarify, the premiere dates aren’t being kept secret to be mysterious, it’s because things are actually in flux. Also, we *never* officially announced any dates, but once they’re nailed down we’ll bring them to you ASAP. If …we’d known people were booking tickets based on information flying around the net, we would have clarified this earlier. There are currently NO confirmed premiere dates, and when the dates are confirmed, we will announce them here (on the official FB page) and on our Official Twitter account (@WaterElephants). We’re very sorry that some fans are being put out, and hopefully this clarification will give them enough time to get things fixed up. Thanks all. We’ll get you this news as soon as we have it.
Responding to restless native, Samantha:
- Samantha, To clarify, nothing’s *changed,* we never announced an official date in the first place. Two theaters were booked because we weren’t sure where the premiere was going to happen. Once we know when and where the premiere will be, we’ll announce it. Unfortunately, we didn’t know until today that fans were booking flights based on unconfirmed information. If we had, we would have clarified earlier.
- While we appreciate the passion everyone has about this, the premiere wasn’t “changed” because it wasn’t set in the first place. As we mentioned earlier, two theaters were booked because we didn’t know which one we’d end up using. A premiere was never officially announced (and still hasn’t been — as soon as we know, we’ll post it). They will continue to provide information on their facebook so click HERE to like their page. We’ll continue to update the blog with information in case you don’t have facebook.
Bonus for Christoph Waltz:
- He’s a fantastic actor, and we definitely think you’ll enjoy what he brings to the film.
They’re great on the facebook
They also confirmed a May 3rd premiere in the UK for WFE! A premiere date in Berlin was posted HERE last week but we await confirmation from the official facebook page on this information.
Now….
Breathe in….breathe out…let’s get zen as kinker Deb would say. I would use Rob’s imitation of Chris Cooper from Remember Me: “Dohnt bee maaad”.
Date and location changes like this are not uncommon due to the intricate dance of schedules that must be choreographed. The director is not to blame. The official WFE facebook is not to blame. We’ve been fortunate to have such access to the film makers and the studio. Let’s see what happens. Who’s off to get this tattoo: Never buy non-refundable
Be sure to have your friends “like” the official WFE page and give us a “like” as well
We will keep you posted about this information and any other updates in case you don’t use facebook.
