The Official Water for Elephants facebook page conducted an interview with Reese Witherspoon this past weekend during the press junket. The cool thing? The questions came from fans of the facebook page! Here is Part 1 of 3 that was posted of the fan Q&A:
Q) from Tiffany: Why don’t you tell us something YOU want us to know about the movie.
A) from Reese: I prepared more for this movie than I have for any other movie in my career, so in this regard it is very special to me. Also, I got to wear the most amazing costumes in this film…Everything from gorgeous satin evening gowns to sparkly pink leotards. It really helped me transform into the character.
Q) from Ashley: What was your favorite scene to film and why?
A) from Reese: My favorite scene to film was the performance sequence with the elephant. I trained with circus trainers for 3 months to learn the routine. The day I had to do it, I was very nervous and scared, but it gave me a tremendous sense of accomplishment when I made it through the entire routine and everyone cheered.
Q): What drew you to the role of Marlena?
A) from Reese: I was drawn to the role of Marlena after I read the book I’m always drawn to strong female characters who overcome adversity to find happiness in their lives. Marlena is an orphan, a woman with no education and no opportunity who manages to work her way to the top of the circus. She also finds the strength to leave a very abusive relationship. It was a very inspiring character.
