Sara Gruen is the author of the #1 bestselling novel Water for Elephants, as well as the bestseller Riding Lessons and Flying Changes. She shares her North Carolina home with her own version of a blended family: a husband, three children, four cats, two dogs, two horses, and a goat. In order to write her latest novel, Ape House, Gruen studied linguistics and a system of lexigrams so that she could communicate directly with the bonobos living at the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa. She now considers them to be part of her extended family, and, according to the bonobos, the feeling is mutual.

    I’m so excited for the movie Water For Elephants but I haven’t read the book yet but I will as soon as I get it and I’ve heard that Twilight star Robert Pattinson is in the movie.

    I read the book WATER FOR ELEPHANTS over a year ago. Once I started to read it I couldn’t put it down , it was like being part of their world, very engaging. WATER FOR ELEPHANTS was the first book I really enjoyed in a long time. I was excited when I read it was being made into a movie and who being cast. I just saw Sara Gruen’s video on APE HOUSE and can not wait to read it as well.

    I read the book Water for Elephants, Outstanding, unbelieve beautiful read. One of the best books I have read in my life. You will go through so many emotions while reading this book. It is real life, it touches your soul. I can’t wait to see the movie. I can’t wait to read Ape House.

    This was the first book I’ve read in ages that held my interest. Most books are so predicatable you can figure out the outcome by the time you’ve gotten to the second chapter. Water for Elephants was intriguing, exciting, and had wonderful character development. Once I started the book I couldn’t put it down. Thank you for a warm, engaging story that was very real.

    I will not see this movie, I just read and saw the video where the star of this movie, the elephant is beaten and electrocuted with a hook. This is animal cruelty, these animals are being abused.

    I will not watch this movie too.
    There is video proof of Tai the elephant being electrocuted and beaten, for the training.
    The book and movie is supposed to expose the animal cruelty in circuses and help the animals, not do the same to them
    Please tell the producers to help all the performaing animals and move them a sanctuary for a somewhat normal life without any more performance work.

    A friend of mine recommended WFE and I did not think I could get into it. However, like everyone else, I couldn’t put it down once I started it. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I could certainly relate to Jacob in his nineties and found it so on target.
    Great book!
