Meet Rosie!

Attention Ladies and Gentlemen! It is being reported that we have……A ROSIE!!!!! Perfect timing after visiting the menagerie earlier this week :)

"Hi I'm Tai. Sure I get typecast but Rosie is the best role I could ever hope for!"

Tai, from Have Trunk Will Travel, will play the beloved Rosie in Water for Elephants. So, Tai! Let’s see that resume:

  • Born ~ 1968 (H2O Kinker: summer of love?)
  • Weight ~ a lady never tells (but H2O Kinkers do! 8,800 lbs!)
  • Favorite Foods ~ Bananas & Carrots (H2O Kinker: Healthy!)
  • Characteristics ~ Very intelligent! Loves to take naps and play. Likes people and every other elephant I see

Sounds like a winner!

    Rosie is beautiful! : ) I can’t wait for this movie…altho there are certain scenes that are going to be hard to watch…and quite a few that will just have to be watched over and over and over again! ; )

    Oh great. These are the same people who rent this elephant out to get painted and wrapped in a soap bubble. I was really hoping the producers would not use a live elephant in this movie and make some great strides in the computer animation department by showing that you don’t have to use live animals for entertainment. Have Trunk Will Travel sucks. Read this article about how they let this elephant (Tai..same elephant) be painted with paint they didn’t even know if it was safe for not.

      a cgi elephant?? you´ve got to be kidding!! what about the millions of show horses, do you feel sorry for them too? people sometimes don`t get that a lot of these animals are enjoying their work and love the attention, you can`t teach an animal anything if it´s not up for it. though it might not be the animal’s chosen way of living, the elephant will be more than well looked after, especially since the movie is in the public eye.

        @caterina – you obviously don’t know elephants. The only way to get an elephant to do what you want is to get them when they are young and break their spirit their isolation from their family and beatings. Then throughout the elephants life, the “trainer” or “handler” has to reinforce their dominance by hitting, beating, jabbing and hooking the elephant with a bullhook (a weapon resembling a fireplace poker) and by keeping the elephant severely confined with leg chains. Elephants don’t choose to participate in movies, circuses or zoos and should not be treated as slaves. Taking an elephant away from their family and denying them freedom is immoral. And yes I do feel sorry for the show horses. Horses, like elephants, have their spirits broken too.

        Thank you Pat, I could not have said it better. Catrina…There is positive reinforcement training and also adverse training…the problem is on a movie set; time is money. I have seen animal trainers do things you would shudder to see. All in the name of money, fame…whatever. They used to kill horses in movies…laws were passed…but animals are still abused in movies…they are bred for movies and dumped (101 dalmations ring a bell?) You have to ask yourself…is my being entertained worth the stress and strain, terror and abuse this animal may have gone through so that I can laugh or be amused? Is it? If you want case by case documentation I can give it to you. I believe the public at large is just uninformed and ignorant. I have seen the most horrendous things…and it makes me very uncomfortable with the entertainment industry regarding animals. If you knew the truth behind the smoke and mirrors…perhaps you would not be so comfortable either. That’s all.

    Looks like it is going to be one AWESOME movie — especially now that they have a “Rosie” on board. I am sure Robert and Rosie will have great fun together. Can not wait until 2011!

    sooo cute.
    I am sure they did not hurt her for real in the movie. Anyone who does hurt an animal needs to be put down: LOL

    wish i had room for her in my apartment.
